Dr Vanessa Powick

DR VANESSA POWICK’S SUMMARY

Dr Vanessa Powick works as a consultant psychiatrist. She has a special interest in post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety and mood disorders using pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy treatments.

Dr Powick completed her medical degree at Newcastle University in 2008, having previously completed a Bachelor of Arts with a major in philosophy and ethics. She completed her psychiatric training across Western Sydney at hospitals including Nepean Hospital, the Consultation Liaison service at Westmead Hospital and outpatient clinics including the Westmead movement disorder clinic and the St John of God Raphael Centre perinatal clinic.

She is a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry. Previously Dr Powick worked as a practice manager in a rehabilitation and hydrotherapy centre and has extensive experience in complex pain issues and injury rehabilitation.

Dr Powick has continued further training in psychotherapy via the advanced training in psychotherapy program of the RANZCP. She is involved in the PTSD group program at St John of God Richmond Hospital and treats both inpatients and outpatients. This includes patients undergoing workers compensation issues. She is also experienced in working with young people experiencing their first episode of psychosis and bipolar affective disorders. She is soon to commence a group anxiety management program in the Upper Blue Mountains.
