In 2019, Dr Michael Biggs was awarded an Order of Australia in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for his service to Neurosurgery.
DR BIGGS’ SUMMARY
Dr Michael Biggs is a Neurosurgeon, graduated MBBS from Sydney University and undertook advanced neurosurgical training in Sydney. He completed fellowships in Toronto, Pittsburgh, Phoenix and New Orleans, in Base of Skull Surgery, Microvascular Decompression and Peripheral Nerve Surgery, working with legends of world Neurosurgery (Professors Sekhar, Janetta, Spetzler and Kline).
Dr Biggs was a consultant Neurosurgeon at Royal North Shore Hospital from 1993 until 2014, stepping aside to allow younger Neurosurgeons to be appointed. He established the Neurosurgical Unit at North Shore Private Hospital in 1998, and was Head of Department from July 1998 until April 2015.
He is a founding member of The Brain Cancer Group, formerly Sydney Neuro Oncology Group (SNOG), a group dedicated to raising money for Brain Cancer research, education and patient/ carer support. To date, over $10 million has been raised since SNOG was incorporated as a tax deductible registered charity.
Dr Biggs continues to undertake research projects and publish in Australian and International Journals. He has since retired as a surgeon however continues as an independent medical examiner.
