
A/PROF HERKES SUMMARY
Associate Professor Geoffrey Herkes is a consultant neurologist with clinical and teaching appointments at the Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH), North Shore Private, and Sydney Adventist Hospital. He trained at Sydney University and received his PhD from the University of Queensland before spending 3 years at the Mayo Clinic, USA. In late 2019, he accepted the Director of Research and Head of the Division of Medicine role at the Sydney Adventist Hospital.
A/Prof Geoffrey Herkes has served on many major national and international boards, including the Epilepsy Society of Australia (past treasurer) and the Aust New Zealand Association of Neurologists (ANZAN) (past treasurer and scientific programme chair). In addition, he has previously served as Head of the Department of Neurology at RNSH.
Currently, A/Prof Herkes serves on advisory committees to the National Prescribing Service (“medicine insight”), as well as being chair of the Human Research Ethics Committee of the North Shore Local Health District (a lead HREC).
A/Prof Herkes has served on the Australian Drug Evaluation Committee of the TGA, Canberra, since 1998; He has chaired the Advisory Committee of Medicines for the TGA since 2017. Dr Herkes has advised the Medical Board and opinions for the Supreme Court in NSW.
