Dr Sunny Randhawa is a highly skilled orthopaedic surgeon with advanced expertise in orthopaedic trauma, complex lower limb reconstruction, and sports hip surgery. Over the years, he has completed two prestigious sub-specialty fellowships, gaining extensive experience in managing a wide range of orthopaedic conditions.
Extensive Training & Expertise
Dr Sunny Randhawa was awarded a seat to study medicine at the prestigious Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland. Later, he was selected for the NSW Orthopaedic Training Scheme, allowing him to train in several leading hospitals. As a result, he gained hands-on experience at John Hunter Hospital, Liverpool Hospital, Concord Hospital, and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, as well as rural placements in Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour.
Following this, Dr Sunny Randhawa undertook fellowship training in hip and knee arthroplasty and orthopaedic trauma at St Vincent’s Hospitals in Sydney. He was then chosen for the highly competitive hip arthroscopy and anterior hip replacement fellowship in Melbourne , where he would work under the mentorship of A/Prof John O’Donnell, the President of the International Society of Hip Arthroscopy.
Specialisation in Sports Hip Surgery
Dr Sunny Randhawa specialises in sports hip conditions, focusing on femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), labral tears, ligament tear injuries, gluteal tendinopathy, and hip arthritis in younger adults. He is also an expert in minimally invasive hip arthroscopy and anterior hip replacement, helping patients regain mobility and improve their quality of life.
Research & Medical Contributions
Dr Randhawa has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and has presented at orthopaedic conferences in Australia and internationally. His research interests include hip arthroscopy in athletes, the long-term outcome of FAI and labral repair surgery, the development of new hip arthroscopic techniques, and hip replacement in younger adults with arthritis.
Commitment to Training the Next Generation
Additionally, Dr Sunny Randhawa is also involved in selecting and training orthopaedic trainees and preparing them for their exit exams.
